Martyrs are Witnesses

23 March 2015

Barnabas PowellIn this episode, Fr. Barnabas Powell treats the topic of Martyrdom. He reminds us that the word Martyr means “Witness,” but there will be times when Christians may be so persecuted that they will witness to the Truth of Christ with their very lives.

Christianity today is the most persecuted religion on the planet, with multiple cases in recent news in which Christians who witnessed to their faith were put to death for their fidelity to the Faith. The Beauty of our Faith flows from our confidence in God and our love for God. This creates a sense of hope and peace that helps Christians understand that being in Communion with the Holy Trinity is a greater value than our physical lives.

We are all called to be Witnesses to the Faith, starting in our homes and our communities.

This program is produced in partnership with OCN

The Orthodox Christian Network produces a wide variety of multimedia resources for Orthodox Christians and seekers in three languages: English, Greek, and Spanish. It is an agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States. Founded nearly 20 years ago as a radio ministry, it continues to produce “Come Receive the Light,” a weekly radio show, and has expanded into a variety of online offerings: a weekly video newscast, a variety of podcasts, three Internet radio stations, a website and a very popular social media presence, especially on Facebook. OCN strives to work in collaboration with all Orthodox organizations and churches to communicate the message of God’s love in Jesus Christ and to strengthen the Orthodox Church in the digital age.
