Veronica Hughes

In this episode, Veronica describes her absence during Great Lent as a result of a severe bout of flu that resulted in hospitalizations. She discusses how she was sustained through this significant trial only through God’s sacramental graces and her husband’s support.

She was recovered enough to make it to Pascha, which she counted a particular blessing. As a result of her experiences, she draws from selections from the Saints to help us when we face times of distress.

As well, we can face a transition when we must leave behind the Paschal Season and reenter a broken world. Among other passages, she draws upon the writings of St. Seraphim of Sarov: “By constant watchfulness over the heart, a purity of heart is born in which God is seen, according to the words of eternal truths: ‘Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God’.” (Matt. 5:8).

We are reminded to have no fear in the face of persecution and trials of any type. Christ is Risen!

This program is produced in partnership with OCN

The Orthodox Christian Network produces a wide variety of multimedia resources for Orthodox Christians and seekers in three languages: English, Greek, and Spanish. It is an agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States. Founded nearly 20 years ago as a radio ministry, it continues to produce “Come Receive the Light,” a weekly radio show, and has expanded into a variety of online offerings: a weekly video newscast, a variety of podcasts, three Internet radio stations, a website and a very popular social media presence, especially on Facebook. OCN strives to work in collaboration with all Orthodox organizations and churches to communicate the message of God’s love in Jesus Christ and to strengthen the Orthodox Church in the digital age.
