Photo Gallery - Around the World- Meteora – The Holy Monastery of Saint Nikolaos Anapavsas
The first monastery you come across on the way to Meteora.
The Monastery of Saint Nikolaos Anapavsas no doubt owes its name to one of its old founders, who must have lived in the 14th century.
The rock on which the monastery was built is not at all large. As with the other monasteries, the ascent to the rock of Saint Nikolaos was via a rope ladder or the traditional net, which was pulled up from the top.
Wonderful view.
The chapel of Saint Anthony, with what remains of the wall-paintings from the 14th century.
It’s built on a rock that’s about 85 metres high.
