The Holy Monastery of the Honorable Forerunner, Pieria, is a Stavropegic Monastery of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
The history of the Monastery is associated with the monastic tradition of the valley of the River Aliakmon.
It celebrates on 29 August, the commemoration of the Decapitation of Saint John the Forerunner.
Some of the great personalities of the monastic life lived here as ascetics, including Saint Clement, Archbishop of Ochrid, Saint Antonios, Saint Gregory Palamas, Saint Dionysios on Olympus and Saint Nikanor the Thessalonian.
