Unaccustomed dryness

People who, from a natural disposition shed rivers of tears, effortlessly, pointlessly and uselessly, as well as those who shed them from some sinful impulse, when they want to weep in a God-pleasing manner, soon see that there’s an unusual dearth within them. This shows that spiritual tears are a divine gift and if you’re going to receive it, you first have to have fear of God and repentance.
