For Christians, there’s only one point to sorrows: atonement for our sins here on earth, through a variety of ailments, sorrow and pain, all for the purification and salvation of our soul. For the wicked, who have no desire to sort themselves out and to repent, these sorrows on earth are a portent of eternal suffering.
