They feel embarrassed

Proud people feel uncomfortable when they’re asked to humble themselves before others. The envious and spiteful feel just as uncomfortable when they’re asked to wish their enemies well. But all of these had better overcome their passions, rein in their feelings and fulfil what others ask of them or what the Gospel requires. Otherwise, if they remain unrepentantly attached to their passions, they’ll suffer eternal punishment.
