God’s never been our enemy, but we’ve been enemies to him. There’s a common notion in our minds that God’s our enemy and we have to placate and propitiate him, which is why we do a variety of things to achieve this. We even say often: ‘May God be merciful to us’. The fact is that we’re God’s enemies and he’s not ours.
