They touch and taste

Sanctification is our participation in the uncreated energies of God, either in the state of purification from the passions, or in the illumination of the nous or the perfection of glorification. Those who hasten towards sanctification always grow, always make spiritual progress; they touch and taste the passionless state. Those who are passionless, sanctified, enjoy a permanent, intense experience. This experience, which is that of divine grace, cannot be compared with any earthly joy or any secular experience.
