It burns us

If we’re to be united to the Lord and have eternal life, we have to partake frequently of his body and blood, since he’s the source of life. Otherwise, we’re not only separated from him, we’re dead. But we have to be careful not to take communion without deep repentance, a contrite heart, a pure life and spiritual preparation, because otherwise holy communion not only fails to contribute to our union with Christ, but, on the contrary, condemns and burns us.
