The Monastery of St Demetrius (Sfântul Dumitru) in Galatsi

This monastery was built before 1641 and probably its erection was related to the arrival in Moldavia of the relics of Saint Parasceva (in the presence of the Ecumenical Patriarch Makarios), whose procession was received by Prince Vasile Lupu himself, who subsequently gave the command for the monastery to be built. The prince, therefore, is considered to be its founder.

His donations to the monastery are not known. The first known donation was in 1642 and was made by Zaraphe Ioannis – and was confirmed by Lupu. However, what is known both from the sources and from the bibliography is that the Moldavian voivode bequeathed his foundation to the Monastery of Vatopaidi⁶.
