Belt with facing birds, 19th century

The belt is embroidered on velvet with a row of facing birds which are pecking a heart-shaped plant. They are separated by amphoras which are surrounded by spiral palm branches. The whole belt is embroidered with cantille and has spangles and metal plaques. In many places the tirtiri* forms small circles which are adorned with white stones, and larger ones decorated with red and sea-blue stones. The whole work should be classified as vernacular art.
