Archbishop Demetrios Reflections on “Selma”

The new film “Selma” reminds us of a critical part of American history, when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lead the civil rights movement in the direction of a peaceful protest against civil injustice in Alabama. The world has seen the March 26, 1965 cover of LIFE Magazine featuring His Eminence Archbishop Iakovos standing boldly next to Dr. King. In this edition of OCN Now, Fr. Chris speaks with His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America on the events that led to the 1965 March in Selma, AL, and the call for Orthodox Christians to defend God-given freedoms for every human being. His Eminence states that it’s not about politics, but that we have a deep-rooted calling to fight for human freedoms.
