It’s a hard life

Being a monastic isn’t an easy life, it’s hard and, as Saint John of the Ladder says: ‘Monasticism is constant violence against nature’. In other words, it’s a continuous struggle against nature. People can’t easily accept this and ‘not everyone can take this in’.
