It increases and is perpetuated

The Fathers of the Church know that evil is caused by, increases through, and is perpetuated by social mechanisms. But they also know that, in the end, it’s the fruit of two great passions: avarice and love of self. Avarice destroys egality. It inspires every form of profiteering and imposes the law of inequality, so that, as one saint says: ‘Some retch from over-eating and others die of starvation and deprivation’.
