Abba Isaac doesn’t talk about thoughts, nor does he make moral exhortations. He describes situations and ontological changes (‘Changing them with your Holy Spirit’). He mentions briefly and precisely the alterations which come upon and are for the salvation of those who exercise self-control, who strive, and who have received the Holy Spirit. He speaks tangibly about things beyond nature and the senses. He scours heavenly matters. And he describes the inexpressible joy that fills the body at the time when it’s visited by grace.
