Those who love the world don’t love God, according to the testimony of Saint John the Evangelist: ‘If people love the world they do not have love for God within them’ (1 John 2, 15). These are people who want to live this life in luxury, to live in mansions, to drive expensive vehicles, to dress in rich clothing, to be praised and honored by other people. They have a carnal outlook, ambition and egotism: that is, everything that’s inimical to God.
