It’s all-powerful

Don’t deify icons of Christ and the saints, but through them venerate him who, having first made us in his image, then deigned, out of ineffable love for us, to take the human image upon himself so that he could become depictable in accordance with it. And you’re not to venerate only the icon of the Lord, but also the form of his cross. Because it’s an all-powerful sign and Christ’s standard against the devil and all the demonic legions.
