The party is not over yet

12 January 2015

Has Christmas exhausted you?  Are you ready to put everything back in order for the New Year?   Hold on just a little while longer because Orthodox Christians are still celebrating the Christmas Season, ending it with the Forefeast of Theophany, Theophany, and the Synaxis of St. John the Baptist.  This three-day celebration is expressed with Divine Liturgy, Blessing of the Water, and remembering St. John the Baptist.

Fr. Chris Metropulos speaks with Fr. Stavros Akrotirianakis, the pastor of St. John Greek Orthodox Church in Tampa, FL, about the many traditions and names associated with Theophany.

Fr. Chris also speaks with Dr. David Ford, Professor of Church History at St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, on the life of St. Juliana Lazarevskaya.  She lived in Russia in the early 16th and 17th centuries, and left a legacy of charity, hospitality, and service to others.  You can read more about her and other married saints in his book, Marriage As a Path to Holiness Lives of Married Saints.

This program is produced in partnership with OCN

The Orthodox Christian Network produces a wide variety of multimedia resources for Orthodox Christians and seekers in three languages: English, Greek, and Spanish. It is an agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States. Founded nearly 20 years ago as a radio ministry, it continues to produce “Come Receive the Light,” a weekly radio show, and has expanded into a variety of online offerings: a weekly video newscast, a variety of podcasts, three Internet radio stations, a website and a very popular social media presence, especially on Facebook. OCN strives to work in collaboration with all Orthodox organizations and churches to communicate the message of God’s love in Jesus Christ and to strengthen the Orthodox Church in the digital age.
