Insignia and Seal
11 May 2011The insignia used by the Monastery today is a Byzantine style monogram with the phrase “of Vatopaidi” written in groups of syllables in the four points of a cross. The monogram is enclosed by a decorative double outline, within which is sometimes written the title HOLY ROYAL PATRIARCHAL AND STAVROPEGIC GREAT MONASTERY OF VATOPAIDI.
One of the oldest surviving seals of Vatopaidi Monastery bears the date 1600. In the center, the Annunciation of the Theotokos, to which the Monastery is dedicated, is pictured with the date. On the perimeter there is the inscription SEAL OF THE DIVINE AND HOLY ROYAL AND PATRIARCHAL MONASTERY OF VATOPEDI. The seal used by the Monastery today is similar.
