It’s worse than bitterness

Feigned patience often impels us to anger more than harsh words do. Cruel silence is worse than the strongest language, as regards causing bitterness. Apart from that, we suffer the blows from a declared enemy more easily than we do the artificial courtesies of a hypocrite.
