The burning stops

Sin is a terrible evil. Through the sacrament of repentance and confession, our holy Church cures it. If you hold lighted charcoal in your hand for any length of time, you’ll burn yourself. But as soon as you throw it way, the burning stops. The same is true of sin which is also a fire that sears people’s soul. Many deny its effect, but in practice accept its consequences unwittingly. Either that or they hide from its ramifications.
