Manolis G. Varvounis, Professor

M. G Varvounis was born in Samos in 1966. He studied History and Archaeology at the University of Athens. He received his PHd in Folklore from the same university in 1991. In 1998 he carried out post Doctoral research at the University Louvain-La Neuve of Belgium. He now holds the post of deputy professor of Folklore at the History and Ethnology Department of the University of Thrace. He has published numerous papers which have been translated into English, French, German, Italian, Turkish, Russian, Spanish, Serbian and Bulgarian. He is a member of many scientific bodies in Greece and abroad and has taken part in several Conferences in Cyprus, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, Bulgaria, Denmark and Egypt. In 2005 the Ecumenical Patriarch awarded him the honour of the 'Official protector of Literature of the Holy, Great Church of Christ'. Two years later he was honoured as the 'Official Attaché of the Alexandrian Throne' by the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria.
