Short biography
Saint Cyril of Jerusalem

St Cyril is among the brightest of the Holy Fathers and Teachers of our Church. He was born in Jerusalem around 312-315. In 334 he was ordained deacon and the following year was elevated to the priesthood by Maximus Bishop of Jerusalem. He becomes renowned for his theological expertise and his zeal for Orthodoxy. He is entrusted with giving sermons in churches and teaching the catechumens.

At the repose of Maximus, Cyril becomes Bishop of Jerusalem but this increases his trials for the sake of the Church. He is widely recognized as the shepherd and teacher for those destined to participate in the body of Christ.

St Cyril was exiled three times for the sake of his Orthodox beleifs and suffered a lot of hardships. He reposed in 386, leaving behind a thriving church in Jerusalem. Among his writings, his 23 kateheseis are considered to be the most significant.
